The master key problem every campus has
A school or campus is not one building with one door. It is classrooms, portables, gyms, labs, chemical stores, kitchens, IT closets, athletic fields, maintenance sheds, bus yards and exterior gates, spread over acres and used by teachers, custodians, coaches, substitutes, contractors, community leagues and summer programs.
Card readers usually cover a handful of main entrances. Everything else runs on mechanical keys, and the keys are mastered so that a small number of them open a great deal. When one of those keys is not returned, and every district has a drawer of keys that were never returned, the only real remedy is rekeying, which is expensive enough that most districts simply do not do it.
No power at the lock. A CyberLock cylinder needs no wiring and no battery at the opening. Power comes from the battery inside the CyberKey the moment the key touches the lock. That is why a portable classroom, an athletic gate or a chemical cabinet can be access controlled without an electrician or a conduit run.

Substitutes, contractors and summer crews
Access is issued against a schedule rather than handed over. A substitute teacher gets a key that opens their rooms, for that day, during school hours. A summer construction crew gets one that opens the wing they are working in, on weekdays, until the job ends. A coach gets the field house on practice days. Nothing has to be collected at the office, and a key that is never returned expires by itself.
If a key is lost you disable it in CyberAudit Web and it stops opening locks. Locks also hold a lost key list, up to 500 entries on Generation 2 non-padlock models, so a named key can be refused at the cylinder itself. Nothing is rekeyed, and no other key on campus is affected. That is the single biggest change from a mechanical master key system, where one loss can mean rekeying a building.
One CyberKey can carry up to 3,300 locks, or up to 12,000 lock list entries on a Generation 2 key with the Lock List Expansion module, across as many as 49 separate schedules. A district maintenance lead can carry one key for every school in the district.
The audit trail
Every cylinder records the lock ID, the date, the time and whether access was granted. A standard cylinder stores 1,100 events in Generation 1 mode and 6,500 in Generation 2. The CyberKey keeps its own separate trail of up to 3,900 events, or 12,000 on a Generation 2 key, and it always records a refusal, so an attempt on a room somebody was not cleared for is captured even though the door never opened.
When something goes missing from a lab, a store room or a kitchen, the question stops being who might have had a key and becomes a list.
Chemical stores and dual custody
Standard CyberLock cylinders can require two or more keys presented in succession before the lock opens, and can require those keys to belong to different schedules, so one person carrying two keys will not satisfy it. An open delay can hold the lock shut for up to 17 minutes after first contact. For a chemistry prep room or a controlled substance cabinet in a campus health center, that is dual custody with no guard and no wiring.
What a rollout looks like
1. We survey the openings. Classroom cylinders, padlocks, cabinet cam locks and gate hardware each take a different format. With over 450 cylinder designs the goal is to reuse the hardware already hung on your doors.
2. We fit a pilot. One building, or one wing, with real keys and real staff. Most cylinder swaps take as little as 30 seconds; awkward formats run 10 to 15 minutes. Nothing is drilled and nothing is wired, so rooms stay in use.
3. You read the audit trail. You see who opened what and when, on your own doors, before committing to anything. Summer is usually the easiest window.
Common questions about school and campus access control
Do we have to replace our classroom doors or hardware?
No. CyberLock replaces the cylinder inside the lock you already have. It is built to the exact dimensions of the mechanical cylinder it replaces, so the door, the lever and the hardware stay as they are. With over 450 cylinder designs the aim is to reuse existing hardware rather than replace doors.
Does it need wiring or power at each classroom?
No. There is no wiring and no battery at the lock. Power comes from the battery inside the CyberKey the moment the key touches the cylinder. That is what makes portables, athletic gates, sheds and outbuildings practical to secure, because there is nothing to plug in and no conduit to run.
What happens when a teacher or contractor does not return a key?

Can a substitute get access for only one day?
Yes. A key is issued against a schedule naming which locks it opens, on which days and between which hours. It stops working when that window closes, so nothing has to be collected and an unreturned key simply expires.
Can community groups use the gym without getting a master key?
Yes. A league or community group gets a key scoped to the gym and the restrooms, on their booked evenings only, with every opening recorded. That is usually easier to administer than handing over a mechanical key you cannot get back.
Does it record attempted entry?
The CyberKey always records a no access event in its own audit trail, so an attempt on a room somebody was not cleared for is captured even though the door never opened. Locks do not record denied attempts by default, though that can be configured.
Can we require two people to open a chemical store?
